• Colorado Film and Video Association - CFVA is Colorado’s oldest and largest media production organization. Our members include hundreds of people and businesses who work in all aspects of the production business—video, film, digital media and a wide range of support industries.
Our goal is to strengthen local media production and provide our members a wide variety of educational programs, special events and networking opportunities.
• BIFF - THE BOULDER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, sponsored by the Colorado Film Society, is held annually on President’s Day Weekend in Boulder, Colorado, USA, and has developed a reputation as one of the most influential young film festivals in the U.S., with an extraordinary number of new-but-unknown feature films, documentaries and shorts that have gone on from early screenings at BIFF to significant box-office success and multiple Oscar nominations. Over 13,000 filmmakers, national media, special guests and film enthusiasts attended the four-day BIFF 2008.
• SERAC FILMS - Started freelancing for these folks in May '10 doing some video-editing. Keeping my fingers crossed for continued projects since they're such awesome people and make such incredible films. Go poke around their site and say... "daaaaamn". They keep a tight little office in downtown Boulder on the pedestrian mall. No Summer workday would be complete without the mid-day hippylovedrumjam to keep the creative energy flowing.
- Cheyenne International Film Fest. A new friend and colleague of mine here in Boulder, Michael Conti, has put together an awesome little film festival up north in the town of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Way the hell in Wyoming you ask? Actually - it's only 90 minutes from Boulder. I'm producing the motion graphics intro to roll before each program too. Stoked. Stay tuned for clips and festival updates here and at my blog.
• The Oregon Media Production Association - Find crew and other info on Oregon production in film and video here.
• Northwest Film Center. - A great resource for the indie filmmaker. Classes, programs, festivals, equipment rentals. Goodness. NW Filmfest going on right now! (November 10-18th). I hope to have a short showing next year at this time. Stay tuned.
• Internet Movie Database - Where else are you going to find out the name of every film David Lynch has made and which actors appeared in them? Right here.
• Running From Camera - Came across this link (among 1000 others) on Draplin's site. It is too cool not to share (well, at least I think so.) So simple is the idea, but resulting in similar, but beautiful images.
• Video Blogging by Dan Kaufman and Crank My Chain. PDXK-TV. All things bike, bicycling and bike culture. Outstanding coverage of this years Cross Crusade Cyclocross Series in Oregon.
• Studio Nemo. My good friends and colleagues at Nemo Design, specifically Trevor Graves, have one of the more bad ass photo studios as part of their design shop here in Portland. Occasionally converts into a bitchin' dancehall too. :)
• Test Drive Videos. - TDV is one of my clients - a video production company that specializes in delivering video online. They do it all, concept/scriptwriting/shooting/editing/motion graphics/multiple file formats optimized for viewing video online.
• HULU - This is the place to go online to watch your favorite television shows in their entirety. A perfect example of "the future now". Just watched the most recent Family Guy - where they forget Stewie at home and go on a family trip to the Grand Canyon. Awesome.
• Filmaka - There are a lot of these internet movie contests out there... this one seems to be one of the best. Jesse Blanchard and I just started pre-production on their current contest: "Smoke and Mirrors". Super stoked on this one, and stoked to be working with Jesse.
• Panasonic Video Camera Systems - They make my favorite cameras - both the ones I own and the ones I REALLY wish I owned. Good shit.
• Barbary Coast Productions - A television production company based in San Rafael, California - run by a great guy named Jim Schlosser. Jim gave me one of my first real television gigs out of film school and I spent a season on his crew traveling around the world working as a P.A. and occasionally as Second Camera. Incredible opportunity I am forever grateful for. The show I worked on was sold to Fine Living Network where it currently airs as "Taste for Adventure".
• Stickam - On the cutting edge of Live Independent Internet Broadcasting. The home of Crank My Chain's Wednesday broadcasts.
• Pirate Satellite TV - Fellow former DeAnza college alum and producer Jaime Nava has put together a number of original productions covering music, comedy, film and packaged them altogether at one website. Some programming has recently been added to local cable. This is how media is changing. F-ing cool.
• One photo per day. Some nifty pics displayed here by the folks across the pond at FWA (Favorite Website Award)s. More e-loafing goodness.

SUSTAINING AND MAINTAINING OUR GREEN ENVIRONMENT:

• SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism) - Thanks to my affiliation with PUMP (now Northwest Trail Alliance), I've been able to contribute in a more substantial and meaningful way to cleaning up after the thoughtless acts of others. Once a year SOLV sponsors clean up Oregon day with numerous organized work partys cleaning up section of the Oregon Coast, forests and waterways. My last two sessions with PUMP we worked in the Tillamook forest and pulled out an untold amount of trash including, but not limited to: Cars, refrigerators, washers, dryers, dumped trash bags, countless computer monitors used for target practice, cans and bottles, shotgun shells, and so on and so on. An eye-opening experience.
• WEND Magazine - A damn fine publication based here in Portland that walks the walk and talks the talk. Their deal? Adventure, Inspiration, Travel, Activism. Cool shit on surfing, sailing, mountain sports, activism issues and worldwide adventuring.
• Greenpeace. No explanation necessary. Get with their program.
• Surfrider. Again, no explanation should be necessary - but here are their strategic initiatives:The core activities and campaigns that the Surfrider Foundation uses to protect our oceans, waves and beaches fall into the categories of Clean Water, Beach Access, Beach Preservation and Protecting Special Places. This includes us non-ocean surfers that take to the mountains to do our surfing. Snow melts and becomes water and eventually trickles its way to the ocean - thus - making it imperitive that we administer the same care and love for the snow covered environment that we do the oceans and waterways. It's all connected people.
• Where does YOUR electricity come from? We've got to eliminate the coal-burning for electricity. Wind power. Wave power. Solar power. There are alternatives - I'm hoping Obama takes this shit seriously and is stepping up.
• Ride yer bike godamnit. :)

SOCIAL NETWORKING PATHWAYS

•Facebook - Funny how many of my "older" friends wouldn't have anything to do with myspace, but jumped right on board with the Facebook. Now though, my old high school friends are embarassing me daily with a nonstop barrage of 80's party hijinx. Love 'em and hate 'em. :) Currently ranked as the number one most trafficked website. Really?
• Myspace - Fun for networking with friends like Facebook - but, I'm really here for the music. To promote my own, keep abreast of my friend's projects... and discover and keep abreast of the stuff I'm a fan of. Powerful.
• Linked In- Professional business networking site. I don't use it a bunch, but it has landed me one gig thus far and seems to be a great way to manage and keep in contact with former, current and new colleagues.
• Flickr Photo - My photo sharing site of choice. My favorite thing to do is hit the "next" button and scroll random Flickr photo pages of people from all over the world. Amazing.

I like how you go there to watch one thing, then Youtube suggests five others that are related, which take you down an entirely different road, and so on, and so forth. Before you know it, and hour has passed and you've just went from learning about old synthesizers, to watching a vintage Yes video.
• My Vimeo Site - Frustrated by Youtube's continued "lossy" compression of videos - I'm starting to post and share things on Vimeo. Looking good. Check it!
• Twitter - John Cleese summed it up nicely in 2009 - "...users who Tweet are Twats". Comedy.

MUSIC & RADIO

• Pandora - Yep. virtual internet radio based on a band or song you like, it dishes up random tracks from that artist plus other similar artists. Quick. Easy. Slick. It's on about 33% of the time in Studio Keeney
• AllMusic.com - A great resource to research bands, albums, songs, etc. Pretty comprehensive.
• Mighty Unicorn - This is a band I play in with some friends - all of which I've always looked up to over the years as members have played in, or do play in, such bands as Sweaty Nipples, Village Idiot, Mommy, Mr. Bungle, The Accused. Brad, Hans, Pat, Kevin and I now create the sounds under the Mighty Unicorn monikor. We have a Myspace site, a website and a new album in production. Gigs again this Spring? Perhaps.
• Myspace for ETK sounds and music. Four-track dabblings, jam sessions, covers of friends' songs and links to some of my old bands. The one thing Myspace is STILL good for - music networking and sharing.
• Coast to Coast with Art Bell, George Noory and Ian Punnit. Bigfoot! UFOs! Deja-Vu! Conspiracy theories! Get the facts here, every night at 10pm - 1190 KEX am in Portland - the #1 talk radio in the states for a reason. Many a nighttime road trip made easier and often absolutely perfect thanks to this show.
• KFJC - Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA. They're affiliated with my film school - and I got hooked. Quality radio from the very special bubble known as Bay Area College Radio. Ecclectic programming and more. Good streaming station.
• KZSU - A stone's throw from the Foothill campus is a little college called Stanford. They also have a damn fine radio program, worth checking out their stream as well.
• KEXP - What was once a "college radio" station for the University of Washington - big money and the nearby Experience Music Project took the station under its wing. Still good because it is commercial free - but - they do tend to highlight the more trendy and popular "alternative" bands of today. Still worth a listen. 90.3 on the dial in the Seattle area also found on the web.
• Web of Mimicry - One of my favorite record labels. Owned and operated by former Mr. Bungle guitarist Trey Spruance. Lots of good stuff here. Specifically Secret Chiefs Trio. Check it!
• Ropeadope - Another favorite record label, home to Medeski, Martin & Wood, Critters Buggin and more.
• Frank Zappa - The greatest American composer? He probably was. Zappa is one of those artists that if I could go back in time and see live, he would be at the top of the list.
• The End Records - Home to bands like Estradasphere, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Voivod and other fusion and death metal acts. Tough.
• Thrilljockey - Chicago record label which is home to Tortoise, Sea & Cake, Trans Am and a slew of others. The artsiest, fartiest label representin' the midwest.
• Mastan Music - Webcast of Alternative, Americana, Psychedelic, Rock'n'Roll with hosts, Jeremy Wilson and Sam Densmore. Produced right here in Portland. Cool stuff!
• Trade-Up Music - Great place to score used music gear in Portland. Nice used cymbal collections, guitars, basses and miscellaneous items crucial to instrumentation.
• Voodoo Funk - This is one of THE COOLEST websites I've come across in many moons. This guy spent years living in Africa, unearthing, saving and collecting super rare pieces of vinyl from tons of these indie African funk, disco and pop artists. Lots of music here on the site to download. Soooo badass. This one is a gem.

DESIGN GEEKERY

• Viewmaster! - Yes, they still make Viewmaster 3D viewers. Pretty nifty addition to any marketing package. My favorite as a kid was the 2001:Space Odyssey Collection I had. Just as cool today as they were yesterday.
• Design is Kinky - A Design news website mainly put together by two Australians and one New Yorker. Tons and tons of great links to hundreds of incredible artists and designers from around the globe. You can get lost for hours here.
• Design Addict - Top-notch resources related to modern and postmodern design, with designer and manufacturer index, virtual exhibitions, interviews with designers, collector forums, news and an events calendar. Boasts extensive links, which include an international array of online design magazines, museums and the most comprehensive list of dealers on the Web.
• AIGA - Thoughtful design leaders and thinkers moving the profession forward. Membership required. :)
• Humancar - A Southern Oregon project. Digidaddy Greenwood Senior's deal. Check Digi-D vid on the site.
• Emigre - One of my favorite type foundries. Based in Northern Cal. Been using them since I first layed my hands on a Mac - around 1993.
• Wilderness - Draplin. Aaron linked up with David Nakamoto and John Phemister to create probably the most talented trio of Graphic Designers under one roof in Portland, if not the Northwest. A lethal combo.
• Nemo - Graves, Bartel and Hotz (and about 40 other folks) keeping it real at their design and communications shop, also based in Portland. I was employee number one.... before being lured away by the life of a cameraman many moons ago! I miss you fuckers.

BICYCLE GEEKERY

• IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) - National governing body responsible for building relationships with local and regional governments to foster mountain biking and trail-building access to citizens like you and me. A fine place to get ideas for "epic" rides.
• PUMP - (Portland United Mountain Pedalers) - NW Oregon's local representation of IMBA, promoting trail-building and group rides for responsible mountain bike folks. Monthly meetings at the Lucky Lab!
• Crank My Chain - Online "television" featuring interviews, commentary, links, minivids and other assorted cool stuff that is bicycling! Put together by PDX-TV and Dan Kaufman.
• VEER - The Portland Bike Documentary - Last year I shot for this film that was just released and is enjoying multiple successes at Film Festivals around the world. Portland has a unique place in the world as being very bike friendly - and bike crazy. This film will help illustrate the how and why.
• Shift to Bikes - Shift revels in expressing Portland’s creative bike culture through performance events and bike fun intended to highlight the positive contributions of bicycling for the community at large.
• OBRA - Oregon Bicycling Racing Association. The governing body for all Road, Cyclocross and Mountain Biking in the state. I finally joined up this year.
• Cross Crusade - The most fun bike racing experience I know of. Likely the most fun Cyclocross Series in the world - we know how to enjoy life. I raced in the Master C category all season. Look for a jump up to the B's next year.
• Bike Portland Blog - This is a case study and how to create and run a blog online. An awesome resource for all things BIKE in Portland and in Oregon for that matter. Go there now.
• Specialized Bicycles - Original manufacturer of mountain bikes. In Northern Cal - Morgan Hill.
• Kona Bikes - A damn fine Northern Washington bike company with roots in mountain bikes. I joined the "Wednesday Tall boy Ride Posse" in Bellingham while living there and learned a thing or two while having fun on the Galbraith Mountain single track.
• Blackrock. Only the most premium downhill and freeriding mountain-bike-only spot south of Bellingham, Washington. Just west of Falls City, Oregon. They do it right here. Tons of super-flow single track, a wide variety of jumps, burms, stunts, log rides and other obstacles. Mainly for Intermediate to Advanced riders - thought there are a few lines for the Beginner. Love this place - so close to my hometown too!
• Galbraith Mountain - Since I called out Bellingham, gotta provide the link to the mountain biking spot. On my top five list for sure. I spent a year living here and could not get enough of the Galbraith. World class.
• The Everyday Athlete Blog - A bicycle blog from here in Portland by superchick Heidi Swift. I met Heidi while shooting some bicycle interviews for Wend Magazine - she was uber-cool and an immense help in rallying folks together and asking the "tough" questions. Her blog rips and is tagged with such goodies as: Cycling, Cyclocross, Mountain Biking, Racing, Randonneuring, Training, Fitness, Boot Camp, Gym Rat, Wellness and Yoga.
• Crank My Chain - Bicycle evangelism. Go Dan.

SNOWBOARDING, SKIING AND MOUNTAINS

• Mt. Bachelor - Cut my teeth here in the 90's chasing Tullis around the hill at high speed. Still love it and get there when I can, my first home away from home. :)
• Mt. Baker - finally cashed in and spent a season here. They have it sooo good. If only Bellingham wasn't such a difficult place to make a living - I'd still be there. Thanks Gwen and the Howat family. I will be back!
• Mt. Hood Meadows - Didn't make a single trip here in the 06-07 season. Ski Bowl was too damn good - and the mighty Bachelor continued calling as well. Maybe next year I'll find my way up there and battle the crowds. Maybe.
• Mt. Bailey Snowcats - I've long regarded Mt. Bailey as my home away from home. I've had more bottomless, fluffy days here than probably anyplace in the world. They've undergone a few management and personnel changes in recent years - but the powder is still the same. I think Oz is back on the scene too - one of my favorite mountain characters and a never-ending supply of dirty jokes for the time spent riding the cat. The Southern Oregon Secret isn't a secret any more!
• Hoodoo Mountain Resort - As small resorts go - it is hard to beat the 'doo. Learned to snowboard here and still love popping in a few times every year because as their slogan says, they are: "Steeper, deeper and cheaper".
• Timberline Lodge - Kind of the icon of Oregon skiing, made even more famous by the 70's film The Shining. Year-round skiing and riding, lots of terrain but a little on the flat side.
• Crystal Mountain Resort - Yet another Washington resort where it is okay to duck the ropes. In doing so I managed to procure many untracked goodies in the last two seasons. Good spot. Worth a trip for sure.
• Monarch Mountain - Kelly and I stumbled upon this place during a Colorado road trip earlier this year. Wow. How perfect is this place? Exactly - perfect. Small and "Mom and Pop" like a ski resort should be - but yet huge amounts of terrain - and that dry, fluffy, Southern Colorado powder. I will be back. Soon.
• Snowboard Magazine - not to be confused with Snowboard(er) magazine - this is a fresher, more mature magazine. To pull a quote from their "about" - .."to educate and to entertain; to bring you, the reader, closer to the elements which bond members of our community together." You got it. Put together by snow mag publishing vets Mark Sullivan and Jeff Baker - with design by Draplin. Good shit.
• Freeskier Magazine - The magazine for today's freestyle skier. Published by the fine folks at Storm Mountain Publishing, also home of Snowboard. Freeskier is the definitive source for contest updates and other wild two-planker goodies, featuring the most insane skiers ripping today.
• Frequency Magazine - another damn fine snowboard publication. This one is the coffee table book style - aka - bad ass printing and super fine paper, a great way to display some of the finer snowboarding pics from around the world. This one comes straight outta Bellingham, Washington by another vet - Jeff Galbraith.
• Witt Wear - Bend's finest handmade, locally-owned, technical snowboard and paddling clothing. Peter Butsch - keeping it real since the day.
• Bonfire Snowboarding - My first official job in the snowboard industry. I met Brad Steward during design school while working at Kinko's in Salem. Brad brought me in to help design and produce logos, catalogs, t-shirts and the like. I owe him much gratitude to introducing me to so many folks. Thanks go out to his Uncle John as welll - now an organic farmer in the San Juans.

• Old Farmer's Almanac - Always good when they predict things like this for the coming winter!
• NOAA - The only daily/weekly forecast I trust. It's kept me on track for the fresh days consistently for years.
• NWAC - Mountain weather forecast issued by Northwest Avalanche Forecasting Center.
• Mt. St. Helens - Cool site with cameras that capture all the volcanic activity. Dig it!

FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES:

• Jason Schmidt - Too much to be said about this jibber. Bad ass friend. Bad ass drummer. Bad ass wakeboarder. Oh yeah... he's a nurse now too!
• Julian Snow - Another damn fine human being - this one also happens to be a good friend and a genius musician. Kicking ass now in his band Millrace - straight outta Salem, Oregon! I was lucky enough to play bass for him on this album. Might be bassing for a gig up here in Portland this April - stay tuned!
• Jason Edwards, friend and fellow musican here in Portland. Makes his living doing audio post production for film and commercial projects with his studio New Krackle in SE Portland. Could be part of another music project together very soon.
• Andy Tullis, another damn fine snowboard photographer that was instrumental in keeping Volcano Magazine images fresh. Still in the mighty Bend, Oregon - doing well in the wedding photography business.
• Aaron James Draplin, aka Draplindustries. One helluva designer. Art Director for Snowboard Magazine, among other things. He's come a long way since our days at the Nickel Ads in Bend. His website, design and attitude are an on-going inspiration.
• Exit Real World - Only the finest snow/skate shop in the West - if not the world. Recently celebrating their 14th anniversary! Jake & Missy and family are rad! Truly old school.
• Apex Pro Audio & Sound - JFK - aka Joel "Effin" Kinney - my bestest pal from childhood. This "sumbitch" keeps busier than a one-toothed man in a corn-on-the-cob eating contest between running his music store in Salem - and fighting Vietcong insurgents in his war reanactment groups. Love him like a brother.
• Trevor Graves - I met Trevor once upon a time on a Bonfire Snowboarding road trip we did together. Since then he has been a good friend and valued mentor and has done continued amazing things in the worlds of photography and design. He, Bartel and Hotz - keeping it fresh and kicking the world's ass at Nemo Design.
• Barbary Coast Productions - Good ol' Jim Schlosser was kind enough to put me to work as second camera last year on his travel and adventure television show. He finally sold it to the Fine Living Network and it is currently airing as "Taste for Adventure". Check the airtimes. The New Zealand shows are super cool!
• Bobby Cochran - Electronic musician/composer/music producer/down to earth cat. I met Bobby on a project shooting and recording 'N-sync in Miami Beach of all things/places. (yes... that 'N-sync - weird, I know). Anyhow - Bobby used to be a death metal drummer and went on to becoming an outstanding audio engineer and electronic music artist. His "Hands Upon Black Earth" album is top notch, one of my faves. Bobby has called Pottersville, CA home for some time - but rumor has it he is relocating to the good ol' NW. We'll see!
• K9-Kings - JD Platt's frisbee dog show. Performing at a rodeo or halftime show near you! A talented group of lovable hounds with acrobatic and expert trained skills. In addition to an impressive old school resume as a professional snowboarder (including a recent 3rd place finish at the Banked Slalom) JD is also the up and coming host for Snomad television. Keep your mouse pointed right here for all the latest!
• Dan Kaufman - The man behind Crank My Chain bicycle television on the internet - via Stickam. Met Dan working on the Veer film project last year and have went on to become colleagues and friends. I helped him shoot his custom video productions of last season's Cross Crusade races. I'm really looking forward to racing and shooting in 2009. We've also recently developed a great working trade where he helps by hosting my BeerCityTV project, and I'm shooting for him on his Wednesday live broadcasts of Crank My Chain.
• Jesse Blanchard - Cool cat and uber-talented mofo. Recently produced and entered a short film for the Filmaka contests with him. Working on number two!
